Last time, we talked about the Rhetorical Situation, which has five parts:

Text: The physical substance of the argument

Reader: The target of the argument

Author: The person who wrote the argument

Constraints: The things that constrain or limit the target audience.

Exigence: The oftentimes controversial thing that has caused the argument, or the issue the argument seeks to resolve.

Your job for today was to read and annotate “Why We Flirt” (541-544) and to identify the rhetorical situation.

Let’s get the work out, and underline what we see as the most important sentences or claims.
