For today, you were to read chapter five, which focused on the Toulmin Style of argument.

You can think about the five-part rhetorical situation as a tool for breaking down an argument, and the Toulmin style as a means for constructing and argument.

Identity the parts of the Toulmin model – what are then, and how do they work?

Group Work: (Suggested: 5-10 Minutes)

Last time, we broke “American Value Systems” down into its Rhetorical Situation. Let’s address the same piece with the Toulmin Structure. Which parts of the essay would you associate with which parts of the structure?

Let’s do the same with “Wallflower at the Revolution”
