Eh 200 2011 Week Eight Class Three
January 1, 2009
Your homework for today was to identify a topic for consideration and to find three sources from our available resources.
1) Group Work: (Suggested: 5-10 Minutes)
-
In groups of three, I would like you to share your topics and talk about why the sources you have found are good sources — how they will help you.
2) Class Discussion: (Suggested: 5 Minutes)
Working on Paper Two: (Suggested: 10 Minutes)
-
We didn’t get too much time to talk about the structure of this paper last time, so we will revisit it now:
Thesis Paragraph: (1)
-
Begin with you MAJOR CLAIM. The major claim is followed general evidence to support that claim. In this case, you will be talking about how an understanding of the issue would help a reader better understand the essay in question.
Body Paragraphs: (5)
-
Begin with a sub-claim in support of your major claim.
-
Provide evidence to support your sub-claim. This will come from one of your three sources.
-
Provide an explicit warrant connecting the evidence to your sub-claim.
-
Transition into the next paragraph
Conclusion, Summary: (1)
-
Restate your MAJOR CLAIMS and your comments on how an understanding of the issue will help a reader better understand the essay in question.
Begin drafting the paper. Let’s start with some pre-writing that can be turned into a thesis paragraph.
-
In a paragraph, identify the issue that you want to explore in more detail. Explain to me why the issue is interesting, and why a reader’s understanding of the essay in question would be broadened if he or she knew more about the issue you are interested in.
We can also use chapters 5,6,7 and 8 to guide out work.
Homework
Complete draft of paper.
