For the next 10 minutes, I want you to write a journal response to the following question:
I want you to identify and describe other kinds of logos-based arguments you MIGHT or COULD encounter on a day-to-day basis. What is it about these arguments that would qualify them as being logos-based, as opposed to pathos- or ethos-based? Explain in SIGNIFICANT DETAIL.
Group Discussion (5-10)
Class Discussion (5-10)
Okay, now I want you to get into groups and open your texts to “The Oblivious Empire.” Over the next ten or so minutes, I want you to identify which parts, if any, of this argument are pathos-, ethos-, or logos-based. One of the things I want you to take from today is arguments are not always simply one kind of argument or another, but, rather are a mixture of parts (pathos, ethos, and logos).
