Today’s Agenda:
For today, I asked you to finish paper three, your argument.
I want to begin class today with a reflective entry on our argument: Over the next ten minutes, I want you to explain to me why anyone should care about your topic and your argument. Why is it the least bit important? Justify the time, effort, and brain power you have put into making your case. Did you express your own idea, or someone other person’s idea? If you expressed some other person’s idea, why did you do that?

In class today, we are going to be spending some more time on our letters. Now that we have written paper three, we can begin to consider how we will be incorporating this information into the letter. I want you to think about how the draft has changed over time. What has improved, specifically? Why did it improve, specifically? And how do you think this kind of improvement will be useful to you in future course at Husson University?

We will be adding this information to our letters for Friday of this week. The draft will be complete, and you will be coming to class with a printed copy. I am shifting the responsibility for this letter onto you, because when you leave this class, you need to be capable of not only recognizing good rhetoric and composition, but you also need to be able to manage and evaluate your own – which is what I have been getting your ready for over the past 13 or so weeks. You can elect to see me about the letter, and I will happily go over it with you and provide you with advice, but you need to be able to recognize whether or not you need that advice — and you also need to be able to handle the consequences of not getting that advice.
Before we work on our drafts, let’s talk about starting on this work. How many of us have started to compile our portfolios? We need to be starting this process ASAP if we have not already done so.
For Friday, finish paper three and e-mail it to me before class. Come to class with your portfolio materials.
