Today is going to be a reflection day. One of things I have asked you to write recently is a self-assessment of how you have developed as a writer. A few weeks ago I asked you to “defend your seat” in this class. Let’s take a moment and find that document in our folder.
Okay, now that we have that document our, I want you to find all of the drafts for the précis and paper two, the Hertsgaard’s argument that you have turned into me.
Now that we have these documents, we can begin to flesh out this document. Your portfolio is going to begin with a letter, much like the letter you wrote last semester. As we have a day to work on this at the end of the week, we are going to begin the work we need to do to compose this letter.
What I want you to do for the next 10 min. is compare your précis drafts, and how the writing improved or changed from draft to draft. Record your observations. When you are done, I want you to so the same thing with your Hertsgaard paper. Once you have these specific observations listed for yourself, we are going to begin the process of explaining to the reader how we have developed as writers over the course of the semester.
Note On Format of Papers for Portfolio: Papers should be formatted “normally” -i.e NOT e-mails, but papers printed from a word processing program, an in a times new roman, 12pt. font
